Introducing...

Kathleen Cleven

Lisa Cook

Hello all, Lisa Cook here.

I remember being a writer from my youngest days. It’s always been a pursuit that has brought me much peace and happiness. I joined the Third Story Writers Guild in 2010, and the ideas flowed even better when I found a group of my peers to open up the creative faucet. I recently moved back to Park Falls from Adams, WI, where I lived for a year. I generally write poetry, but do also have two or three long-form stories I’m working on. Someday soon I do hope to publish. Until then, I’m enjoying being back in town and amongst my friends again!

Karen Dums

I’m the love child of Henry David Thoreau and Agatha Christie. From thence comes my civil disobedience and my love of mystery. Seriously? Perhaps I was born with a pencil in my hand. Or maybe it was a dictionary. In any case, I love words. I love to put them together, solve the puzzle they spill into, bend it to my will and create something – humorous, interesting, intriguing, down to earth, just plain silly [see above] or gut-wrenchingly, tear-jerkingly honest, but also always readable, even if only for me. My name is Karen, and I’m a writer.

Hailey Dykstra

I am a very young writer; the youngest of our group at age 13. I work on inspiration, and then never seem to finish the "inspiration strikes." Third Story Writers Guild welcomed me in the spring of 2013. I should say April; it wasn’t very “spring-y” yet. Right now I am working on a story I call ‘The Third Guild’ by my writer name Bony Maronie (my favorite song). It is based on my fictional idea of how the Guild was started. I don’t think 13-year-olds can publish a novel, so I’ll finish it when I’m older.

Rocelyn Gelina

Myriads of stories have filled my thoughts over the years and bits and pieces of these stories have entered into other stories in an attempt to complete them. Now, after all these years, I feel brave enough to apply them with pen on paper. Everyone has their own style of writing and mine I find is simplistic with feeling. I write as I think and sometimes wish I could write faster! I lke screenplays, children's stories and some mystery novels. For me the most difficult task is the writing, but writing I will do and writing will be done.

Anna Maria Hansen

Anna Maria Hansen can be found three degrees North of the Middle of Nowhere. She lives in an ancient hemlock forest, surrounded by creatures (real and not-so-much) that fill every moment with confusion, noise, chaos and unprecedented joy. She is slightly insane and a bit crazy; thoughts dripping on paper where they spread into thorn-filled rambles or bloom wild violets: stubborn, old and deep-rooted.

Terri Kaiser

It is the tapestry words can create that spurs my imagnation and makes my fingers fly across the keyboard. I began with romance -- publishing two books, Moonlight Bay and Kissing Livvy in my Butternut Creek series under the pseudonym Tess Morrison. Under my own name I have finished a work of women's fiction titled The Book of Esther. I have plans for more works in this genre, but in the meantime another romance is in the hopper. Visit me on my websites, tessmorrison.com and terrikaiser.com

Kim Kaletka

Kim has a variety of writing experience. She graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and english, then wrote for several newspapers. She then worked toward her Master's Degree in technical writing at Mankato State University and wrote for various companies in the Twin Cities. She has now changed career paths and is a nurse at the Bayfield County Jail. She still enjoys writing in her spare time, and hopes to do more grant writing in the future. She lives in Butternut with her two children and multitude of pets.

Dawn LeDuc

For almost 50 years I have been corresponding with relatives and friends via letter. I have also kept a journal for many years.  From 2010 to 2013 I was the assistant project manager and historian for the "Color My Library" project to revitalize the children's section of the Park Falls Public Library. In 2013 I wrote the short story, "Three Generations on Silver Lake" which was included in the book Hobos and Swimming Holes. The book contains 431 tales from the good old days in northern Wisconsin. The members of Third Story Writers Guild are very interesting. I've learned a lot about writing and publishing books.

Linda Rybak

My name is Linda Rybak, from Chicago area born and raised. My parents were high school sweethearts from Butternut, WI. My cousin introduced me to my husband when I was 16. We married when I was 19. I now live in Butternut with my sweetheart. We work together, running a business out of our home. I joined Third Story Writers Guild to help me write a story that needs to spill.

Jody Scherwinski

My name is Jody Scherwinski. I was born and raised in Butternut, WI. Basically I have been writing my entire life. I write for enjoyment and escape. I will write anything, but have never had anything published and at this point have no desire to. I was asked to join when the group began and have continued with it. I like getting prompts as it gives me ideas of what to write about. Give me a topic and I can usually write a story; just not a poem. Since joining the group I have written a few poems and think my writing has improved.  I’ve also entered a few writing contests.

Scott Schmidt

I was born in '63

I saw some things

Some things saw me.

Too slow to run

Don't like to fight

I stay here with my pen

And write.

Mostly about fish.

Scott is now a regular contributor to the online and paper publications of LocaLeben. Look for his Lines From Upstream in either format.

Allie Szymik

Allie, a writer and a fighter, a dreamer and a believer, bling is my thing, everything must sparkle and sing. Miss Bling Bling's the name. My heels are never short, I may snort and I don't do sports. I'm honest and caring, I've loved and I've lost, I've tried and I've failed, I've died and am now alive. I listen and I learn, I'm strong and I'm weak, your deepest secret I'll keep. I sing with zing but I write with passion. I don't just write, I create. I draw with my intensity I paint with my captivity. I dance with the words, model with the experiences, I put on a grand performance. There's love and there's hate, there's so much to relate. There's sorrow and dreams for tomorrow. There's all majestic things that lead up to the unforgettable ending. I'm shy but never silent. I live through my words. Listen to me and you will see just how serious I can be.

Annelise White

I am soon to be 40 years old and have been wanting to write for the past three years. I see things on my travels that cause me to think about them and I want to write. My mom helps me because I am developmentally disabled. I like butterflies and clouds. I believe that just because one is disabled does not mean that they cannot be creative. I love the Third Story Writers Guild!

Peg Zaemisch

Peg  Zaemisch has been writing or editing for newspapers since 1980. She is a founding member of the Third Story Writers Guild and is working on a work of fiction called Sentimental River which she hopes to finish before she is too old to remember she wrote it. The Third Story Writers Guild has been instrumental in keeping her moving toward the creative side of composition.
